The day has come...
But before I disclose what day I am celebrating,
let me explain a little of how I got to this point:
It has been weighing heavy on my heart for the past 9 months...
Well, during the month of September 2014,
I was asked to visit some "members" in the community
to deliver food, firewood, living supplies, etc.
To my surprise, these "members" were all elderly.
And let me tell you, they were ELDERLY!
People in their 80's and 90's living in wooden shacks,
the majority widowed or without family to care for them-
no food or access to running water-
let alone health care, medications, companionship, etc.
They are alone and forgotten by this busy world
which has little time to think of what it means to be an old person in Guatemala.
Well....growing old in Guatemala is not easy.
As I visited these elderly people and brought them food with other volunteers,
and saw how they ate maybe 2-3 tortillas for each meal,
or how they had to fend for themselves to find firewood to stay warm at night,
or how they wore the same clothes for 2-4 weeks
because they didn't have the strength to hand wash their clothes,
or how they would cry because they were mourning their children
who didn't make it through infancy because of malnutrition,
etc, etc, etc....
I couldn't forget them...
and the Lord began to speak to my heart:
"What you did to these least brothers of Mine, you did it to Me."
(Matthew 25:40)
It has been beautiful to see how the Lord has unfolded His plan
and has led me to find Him in the elderly...
to quench the thirst He has in them for Love...
to take the time to enter into their world and reach out
whether it be big or small....it doesn't matter!
He thirsts for our love!
But He thirsts most especially in those who are forgotten in society
and those who cannot repay us for our deeds of kindness.
May you be blessed to walk a little of this journey with me
finding the Lord alive in each one of us...
and learn that truly each time we are touching someone in need,
we are touching Him.
I am so proud of you Katie and how you are following Christ and his love stirring in your heart. Keep the stories coming and let our hearts be stirred.
ReplyDeleteLove ya, Dad
Katie...well it's official, huh? You are so right. God's way is always so much greater than we can ever imagine in our mortal mind. I am proud that you have accepted this great challenge He has laid before you. Our team would love to work with your wonderful souls for medical and dental needs when we come in January. We may be able to help some financially too.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you and the people you serve,
Ronnie
